After the bath

Finally on Monday there will inaugurate in the Prado Museum the exhibition Joaquín Sorolla (1863-1923), the biggest sample devoted to the Spanish artist of the XIXth century.

The exhibition will be provided with 102 of works, between them 14 panels realized for Hispanic Society of America, and pictures like Portrait of Benito Pérez Galdós, Garden of the house of Sorolla, Ex-vote or The networks.

Conferences cycle on Sorolla and Hispanic Society

In the frame of the exhibition of the panels that Hispanic Society of entrusted America to Joaquín Sorolla (who will exhibit in the Prado Museum from May 26) the Museum Sorolla will realize a conferences cycle in June.

The target of these chats is to understand the creation process that the Spanish artist applied for this one series, one of the most important of his career. The conferences will be in the Andalusian Courtyard of the Museum Sorolla and the program is the following one:

Exhibitions agenda 2009 in Spanish museums

2009 will start with an explanatory variety for all the tastes, since some museums as Queen Sophia, Prado Museum and Thyssen Bornemisza have already moved forward his programming that includes contemporary art and modern art.

  • On February 3 there will be inaugurated in the Prado Museum of Madrid the retrospective devoted to Francis Bacon with 70 works that will produce homage to the anniversary of birth of the artist. For May, there is had programmed the opening of the biggest retrospective of the work of Joaquín Sorolla, with more than 100 pictures, between which there stand out 14 panels of the Vision of Spain.

Between two centuries, exhibition of the Spanish art of 1900 in Mapfre

The Sorolla picture sold for almost 3 million euros

Joaquín Sorolla gave the note in auction of modern art of Sohteby`s on having managed to overcome the expectations: his value of auction came to 2, 93 million euros!

We are speaking three sails, the picture that was more than 50 years kept in the cellar of the museum of Dresden and that passed for second time to hands of collectors deprived with this auction. Although in 2004 the same picture sold for 2, 4 millions, in the Sohteby's meeting it managed to overcome his mark for 500 thousand euros and achieve the exit estimation.

“Three sails”, oil of Sorolla that is auctioned today by 2 million euros

This picture will be the star of the first meeting of auction of modern and impressionistic art that celebrates today in Sotheby's New York. The oil of Joaquín Sorolla has a starting price between the 1,9 to 2, 5 million euros, in addition to a particular history.

The picture was identical with 1903 for the Spanish artist and it was bought in 1094 by a Berlin family of Jewish origin, to whom the ancient officials of the German DR expropriated the work. It was as well as almost the whole last century was kept in the cellar of a museum of Dresden to the luck of the abandonment.
