White center, the most expensive picture in the history of the auctions of contemporary art

The work is an abstract painting of artist Mark Rothko and it was sold in the Sotheby's auction by 54 million euros, turning into the piece of contemporary art sold at major price in an auction.

White center is a work that dates of 1950, which value was estimated in approximately 29 million euros, and it was put on sale for the first time by the philanthropist David Rockefeller. Exactly, his attraction was taking root in being a work property of this foundation of international fame, which now was sold to an anonymous bidder by this fortune, while it had been acquired by Rockefeller in 1960 for only 6.000 euros.

Other of the points that increased the worth of this piece of Rothko was that it happened for few hands from his creation, since before the magnate banker the haya done his, belonged to an art gallery of parkinson Elizabeth Bliss, niece of Lillie Bliss, one of three founders of the Modern Art museum of New York (MoMA).

The record earlier one of the teachers was supporting it of the abstract expressionism, Willem de Kooning, who with Woman III had awarded the podium to the work of art more facing the being sold by 20 million euros in November, 2006.
